My Christmas project
The world is an absolute dumpster fire, so I’ve decided to stop doomscrolling for a bit, and start watching some of the worst television being made today. Each year, Hallmark, Lifetime, and other channels churn out what seems like dozens of new holiday movies.
As the years progress, and the demand for holiday movies grows, the plots get thinner. This is how I envision the writing process going at the Hallmark movie factory:

This holiday season, I’ve decided to watch, review, and compare all the location-mentioning Christmas movies I can find on Netflix and Prime. How many location-mentioning Christmas movies can there be, you ask? Here‘s a short list I put together:
Holiday in Santa Fe
Christmas in New York
Christmas in Florida
Christmas at Graceland
A Christmas in Vermont
Last Vermont Christmas
Christmas in Louisiana
Christmas on the Bayou
A Christmas in Tennessee
Christmas in the Smokies
A Blue Ridge Mountain Christmas
Christmas in Mississippi
Christmas in Montana
Christmas in Tahoe
Rocky Mountain Christmas
Christmas in Carolina
Christmas in Washington
Cape Cod Christmas
Christmas in Scotland
A Very British Christmas
Along with those specific locales, there are quite a few movies that take place “in the heartland” or ”the wilds,” and at least three that are in vineyards. I plan to write about the movies here, and am thinking of a rubric by which to accurately judge all movies. More to come on that in my next post.
I‘ve spent the last few days visiting my sister, who lives in the Northeast Kingdom of Vermont. It does not get any more Hallmark holiday movie than here. Just look at the fireworks show they had over the welcome center the other night.

More than anything, this is a project to take my mind off of world events. I also want to get back to writing for fun. I write a lot for work, and it’s been a long time since I did anything but post on social media for fun. I‘d love it if you‘d like to follow along!
